Match report by John Corness |

PCC chose to bat despite the long wet grass, hoping to stay in long enough for the water to drain away. The Barbars struck early as Wojtek edged an outswinger to first slip, swallowed up safely by Dany. Barbars bowlers’ hopes of an early tumble began to fade after the Bamboozler came in and proceeded to build a partnership of 50-odd for the second wicket with the Honz. The pair might have added even more had a few blazing shots not been denied boundaries by the wet grass. Following the drinks break Rohit and his long handle took over, increasing the tempo and despite a rapid succession of partners coming and going, the PCC total ended up at 128 for 9, effectively all out as playing with 10 men. Barbars’ new opener Bruce stuck around for a long time with Steve E happily able move back down the order. Rohit made big inroads though, first of all taking 2 wickets in 2 balls and later throwing a direct hit from mid off to run out Jon to break the backbone of the Barbars batting. He also came close to breaking Honz’s back – a diving stop followed by comedy throw right at the body of his team mate who was unable to get out of the way. Young Ian was playing in his first match for PCC and bowled a few impressive left-arm overs. Rohit then effected another runout, this time via the keeper, and things were looking tricky with the target not quite in sight - although Nick hit a few sweetly timed shots but it was too little too late. Roy finshed things in his offspin mode, the ex-seamer turned twirlyman showed he knows a thing or two about slow bowling, bagging 3 wickets, one with a smart return catch. An excellent long-stay innings was played in the Vypich Chapadlo pub until closing time (1am), followed by ad-hoc batting practice inside the night tram using a rugby ball. Roy has the video.
